Managing digital processes as a success factor

PORR and Doka create industrial solution for digital construction logistics

Vienna / Amstetten, 09.09.2021 – PORR, the second largest construction group in Austria, together with Doka, a company of the Umdasch group, form a joint venture to establish a mutual construction logistics platform in order to digitize and optimize the processes related to the ordering, delivery and invoicing process. The stated objective: “Construction logistics – Connected & Connected”. The initiative is set to undertake pioneering work for the entire European market. In the first step, the focus is on the most complex of building materials: concrete poured in place.

The issue of construction logistics is one of the main productivity factors in the construction process. Optimal process management and logistics know-how are essential to ensure that capacity utilization remains at a constant high level. And yet, despite this, standardized digital logistics solutions are rarely seen as an established feature in today’s construction industry. Traditional solutions in the form of electronic data interchange (EDI) or e-procurement often show their limits here and are not able to fully cover the complex demands of industry.

“By combining our digital and process know-how, we are doing pioneering work for the entire European construction industry. At the same time, we are laying the foundation for a so far unique industrial solution in the field of intelligent construction logistics. Because digitizing the value of chain construction can only happen if we work together, ”said Karl-Heinz Strauss, CEO of PORR.

The cooperative approach as a top priority

“The joint venture will provide a shared logistics platform for the entire construction industry,” said Robert Hauser, CEO of Doka. “The aim of our cooperation is to remove barriers and interconnect all existing systems in the industry. Here, we attach great importance to confidentiality between customers and suppliers.”

PORR brings its many years of expertise in digital delivery slips, Doka bringing its know-how in the field of Smart Pouring, an application for ordering concrete, as well as the additional digital expertise of the Umdasch group. The first step will see the joint venture tackle the digitization of the in situ concrete process. The focus here is on the European market. The shared goal? To drastically reduce the amount of work required and minimize sources of error.

With a clear emphasis on data security and guaranteed confidentiality between customers and suppliers, the new industry solution will be accessible to all market players. The initiative is designed to encourage the active participation of other companies in order to carry out constructive work on the common industrial solution.
