FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE) – The 26th Miss California Pageant is back in Fresno after it was canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event takes place at Doubletree Hilton Hotel in Fresno.
“I can tell you that it is a vibrant and diverse community. It’s a perfect place to host this competition because everyone can see how diverse we are and Fresno really is a great representative of the entire state of California, ”said the Chief of Police of California. Fresno, Paco Balderrama.
“I think it brings incredible notoriety to the city of Fresno throughout the state of California – it also boosts our local economy,” said City of Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer.
Seven of the 31 Miss California candidates represent the Central Valley regions. The CEO of the competition said the Central Valley was essential to keep the organization going.
“I want to thank the city of Fresno, for twenty – I’ll call it 27 years of support because this city has been so supportive even when we were in our darkest hours with the pandemic. The pandemic has been so bad for us by disrupting our sources of income that it has almost forced us to close our doors, ”said Russ Gladden, CEO of the Miss California Organization.
The only Miss California to hold the title for two years due to the pandemic has said she expects the hot topics of 2020 to be at the forefront of competitive issues for this year’s contestants.
“One of the things about being Miss California is the adaptability and flexibility. This is all unprecedented for all of us and I had the title of Miss California at the time, but what was most important for these women to realize is that they have to be asked these questions because if it happens to them God forbid ever. does it again, but if it does, they must be prepared, ”said Eileen Kim, Miss California of 2019 and 2020.
The first round of competition begins Tuesday with the announcement of the new Miss California on Friday.
