Deck Your Halls Event for Crafters Thursday

BEACH CITY — Crafters are invited to the Deck Your Halls event from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Camp Buckeye, 10055 Camp Road NW.

Deck Your Halls is a modified drive-in event this year. Choose your craft kits online, drive and collect them from camp with a packed lunch. Greenery projects, as well as a shutter project, will take place outside on the porch of the lodge. A display in the lodge will include many items that you can sort through to create your own kits. Artisans will be available to help sort and craft a kit.

Proceeds from Deck Your Halls benefit area children who otherwise could not attend a week of camp. Camp Buckeye Retreat Center is a nonprofit, interfaith camp with hiking trails, pond, pool, chapel, playground, winter lodge, cabins and picnic pavilions.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Gala Thursday

DOVER — The Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Ohio will hold their 21st annual gala at Breitenbach Winery’s Tool Shed, 5773 Old Route 39, on Thursday.

Talking Mystery Author

DOVER — Mystery author Jess Montgomery will speak at the Dover Library, 525 N. Walnut St., at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Community Hall. She will talk about historical influences and her personal connections to the Kinship Mystery series set in Appalachia, Ohio in the 1920s.

Kent State Tuscarawas Launches 2022 For the Future Campaign

NEW PHILADELPHIA – The Tuscarawas County University Foundation is launching its 2022 For the Future campaign to benefit students at Kent State University at Tuscarawas.

Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Judge Michael Ernest and marketing professional and business owner Michaela Thomas will lead this year’s campaign.

The For the Future Founders Fund supports scholarships and student success. The foundation was established in 1968 to maintain and advance a high standard of education and excellence at Kent State Tuscarawas. Funds raised through the campaign are used for scholarships and student initiatives, as well as the provision of educational facilities and equipment.

New outreach program for unemployed workers in Ohio

NEW PHILADELPHIA — A new outreach program, the Helping Ohioans Pursue Employment (HOPE) initiative, will help Ohioans with free services available at their local Ohio Means Jobs Center.

The Means Jobs Ohio local office is at 1260 Monroe St., and the phone number is 330-364-9777.

Ohioans can receive one-on-one assistance with job training, career planning, computer/phone access, resume preparation, online training, and online job search. Career coaches are also available to help individuals explore new opportunities and gain referrals for positions. Coaches can also help people get services from the veterans agency, vocational rehabilitation, and their local public assistance agency, if they are eligible.

Services are free to Ohioans seeking employment or who may be underemployed.

The downtown illumination ceremony is Friday

NEW PHILADELPHIA — The annual Downtown Lighting Ceremony at the plaza’s gazebo will take place Friday at 6 p.m. with music and entertainment.

Sponsors Wanted for Storybook Lane

NEW PHILADELPHIA – Those who love to spend the Christmas season on Storybook Lane in Tuscora Park can help support the ongoing restoration and display of nursery rhyme characters.

For a $100 donation, the Rotary Club of New Philadelphia will place your family or business name on one of the “Friends” boards for three years. Some spaces on the Character Verse Boards are available to sponsors for a $300 donation. The gift is recognized for three years and can be renewed. Sponsors and Friends already listed on the Storybook Lane display will receive advance notice with the first chance to renew their place in the display.

Set of forestry programs

NEW PHILADELPHIA – The Soil and Water Conservation District of Tuscarawas and Harrison County, along with the Forestry Division of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, have scheduled the following free workshops:

  • Thursday at 5:30 p.m., Park Christian Church, 7041 State Route 800 SE, Dennison. Topics: Ohio Forest Tax Law, Timber Taxes, Notice of Intent to Harvest Timber.
  • Dec. 8 at 5:30 p.m., Dover Public Library, 525 N. Walnut St. Topics: NRCS-EQIP, CAUV, American Tree Farm System.

Tuesday blood drive

TUSCARAWAS – The Warwick Lions Club will hold a blood drive from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Community Center, 212 Cherry St.

Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments will be given priority. Donors can schedule an appointment and earn rewards points by visiting www.vitalant.org/ohiodonorportal, group code 4931. Donors should bring photo ID and a list of medications they take.
